Most logical move for the Cleveland Browns to start their NFL Draft may be to make a trade

A month ago, the Cleveland Browns had seven picks to work within the 2024 NFL Draft but sent two in a trade to the Denver Broncos for WR Jerry Jeudy.

That leaves the Browns with five selections in the draft later this month and a bigger point of emphasis on making the most out of their picks. Cleveland currently has just three of their own picks in the draft, then one from the Philadelphia Eagles and Baltimore Ravens.

2024 NFL Draft selections scheduled for Cleveland Browns

Round 2 – No. 54

Round 3 – No. 85

Round 5 – No. 156 (from Philadelphia through Arizona)

Round 6 – No. 206 (from Baltimore)

Round 7 – No. 243

The Browns could make a trade-down happen to acquire more draft capital

When you are a playoff-caliber team, it is harder for draft picks to not only make the team but to have a role as well. With Cleveland only having five picks, they could look to trade down in their first pick to gain an extra selection or two.

If Cleveland feels they can drop a few spots to draft the same guy they wanted at No. 54, then they’ll have the chance to add an extra selection in perhaps the fourth or fifth round. The more darts you throw at the board the more likely you are to hit your target, draft picks can be looked at the same way.

Cleveland is in the final year of having to give up their first-round pick to the Houston Texans from the Deshaun Watson trade. The Browns will gladly take back their first next year after not having it for three straight drafts.

Andrew Berry has been smart but aggressive as the general manager and has never shied away from making a trade. If Cleveland can move back a few picks and still like where they’re at, expect Berry to make the call.
