Part of being a reality TV star means sharing your life, including the good, the bad, and the ugly. Some people on The Real Housewives of Potomac don’t understand that concept, but thankfully, Mia Thornton is committed to being honest. Throughout Season 8, she and Gordon Thornton have shared all of the details surrounding their separation.
During the RHOP Season 8 finale, all hell broke loose when we learned that Mia had been dating a radio personality named Inc. She explained how they were long-lost high school sweethearts who recently rekindled their flame. Mia even admitted that the timeline for their romance was so murky that it has left some questions about who fathered her son, Jeremiah.
Mia recently spoke with Entertainment Tonight about the radical transparency she’s been showing this season on RHOP. In her opinion, sharing is her obligation.
Mia knows what she signed up for
Mia officially separated from Gordon last summer. It just happened to be around the same time that Season 8 stopped filming. The show resumed production to capture the chaotic aftermath, and we saw the estranged couple fight over their issues. Between their sex and money issues, they navigated subjects that most reality stars try to keep hidden. Mia said that she and Gordon both wanted to share their reality with the world.
“We wanted to be transparent with you guys,” Mia explained. “We have an obligation to share with you all what’s really going on in our real lives.”
Although the estranged couple felt compelled to be brutally honest for the cameras, Mia admitted that she was shocked by how harsh Gordon was once the cameras started rolling again. In the finale, we saw him drop bombshell after bombshell. He might have had the best quip of the entire season when he told Mia, “If you want fair, go to a carnival.”
Mia shared, “I didn’t expect Gordon to necessarily be that mean, per se, but you know, that’s how he is when the cameras aren’t up.”
On the show, we learned that intimacy and financial issues plagued the Thorntons for years. Mia said that her newfound reality TV show fame also played a part in the deterioration of the marriage. She claimed Goron was a little bit jealous of her Bravo stardom and he “interjected himself in every aspect” of her life.
Although Season 8 wasn’t an easy one for Mia, or the fans who had to struggle through watching it, she admitted that she’s grateful for how things went down this season. It turns out, being honest feels pretty good. Robyn Dixon could learn a thing or two from Mia.
“It feels great,” Mia said. “I was able to authentically be me, and the world loves it, so it is a great feeling.”
