Can the Denver Broncos secure their future franchise quarterback in the upcoming 2024 NFL Draft?
In CBS Sports’ latest NFL mock draft, the Denver Broncos will NOT be trading up…but instead, actually trading back. In the projections, the Broncos part ways with the 12th overall selection in the upcoming draft as well as a 2025 sixth-round pick to the Los Angeles Rams in exchange for picks 19, 83, and a 2025 third-round selection.Ezoic
With the 19th pick in the draft, the selection would be Washington quarterback and 2023 Heisman Trophy finalist, Michael Penix Jr.
“The idea of taking Michael Penix Jr. may have been a little rich at No. 12 overall but, by trading back and accumulating additional draft resources, the Broncos can take a risk on the Washington quarterback here.”
Denver Broncos’ Drama with Russell Wilson Clouds 2024 Off-Season
Russell Wilson signed a five-year, $242 million deal with the Broncos following the trade between Denver and Wilson’s longtime home, the Seattle Seahawks following the 2021 season. The club bit the bullet and amicably parted ways with the potential future Hall of Fame signal-caller ahead of the new league year on March 1.
Wilson signed a one-year, veteran minimum ($1.21 million) deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers, shortly after his departure with the Broncos became official. While Wilson will reportedly be starting in Pittsburgh following the club trading former first-round pick, Kenny Pickett to the Philadelphia Eagles, Denver will still be paying Wilson $39 million to not play for them in 2024.
